SAP BusinessObjects: A Bright Future Gets Even Brighter!

By September 19, 2025No Comments

In our previous post, we introduced the exciting future of SAP BusinessObjects with the upcoming release of BI 2025. We highlighted SAP’s shift in release strategy, the confirmation of BI 2027, and the extended support roadmap through 2030. This follow-up builds on that foundation with new developments, deeper insights, and a look at how CATCH is preparing to help clients take full advantage of what’s ahead.

Why SAP BusinessObjects Stands Out

SAP BusinessObjects offers a robust set of capabilities that make it a strong choice for enterprise analytics and reporting. Its advanced scheduling and publishing features allow for automated report delivery with complex triggers, dependencies, and personalized bursting — all without requiring third-party tools.

Security and compliance are also key strengths. SAP BusinessObjects provides granular role-based access, row-level security, and native auditing capabilities that help organizations enforce governance policies and maintain visibility across their reporting environment. These features are especially valuable for businesses with strict data oversight requirements.

The platform’s semantic layer (Universe) enables consistent and governed self-service analytics by abstracting complex data sources. Enhancements like the Data Mode in BI 4.3 and BI 2025 improve data blending and cleansing directly within Web Intelligence, streamlining workflows and reducing reliance on external tools.

SAP BusinessObjects is built to scale — whether you’re a growing mid-sized business or a large enterprise. Its flexible architecture supports on-premises, hybrid, and cloud environments, making it adaptable to your existing infrastructure and future plans. It also integrates smoothly with a wide range of ERP systems, including SAP and others, helping organizations of all sizes streamline reporting and decision-making.

These strengths contribute to a lower total cost of ownership (TCO) and strong return on investment (ROI) for organizations seeking a scalable, secure, and future-ready BI solution.

Leveraging SAP BusinessObjects within the CATCH C3D BI Suite can help reduce TCO and improve ROI even further. CATCH’s BI Portal is a simple, intuitive, and responsive interface that serves as a front-end to SAP BusinessObjects content, as well as content such as PowerBI, SSRS, and others. The CATCH BI Portal is brandable and customizable and includes features to extend SAP BusinessObjects functionality to better meet organizations’ needs and requirements. The CATCH Enhancer Series extends SAP BusinessObjects functionality even further, providing tools to enhance auditing, create backups, streamline documentation, and easily retrieve valuable metadata from environments, enhancing data-driven decision-making. The C3D BI Suite was created to help customers take Business Intelligence to the next level in their organizations, all while improving customer ROI and reducing their TCO by 50 to 90%.

BI 2025 and BI 2027: A New Release Strategy

As discussed in our previous post, SAP has introduced a new release strategy with BI 2025, moving away from traditional annual service packs to more agile, regularly released fix packs. A new cadence of minor releases every two years has also been established, with BI 2027 already confirmed and scheduled.

Both BI 2025 and BI 2027 will receive three years of Mainstream Maintenance, followed by one year of Customer Specific Maintenance (CSM), which includes critical security updates. These changes reflect SAP’s commitment to long-term support and innovation within the BusinessObjects platform — with official support extended through at least the end of 2030.

BI 2029: The Roadmap Extends Further

CATCH is excited to share that SAP has now officially announced BI 2029, extending the BusinessObjects roadmap even further. Like its predecessors, BI 2029 will be supported with Mainstream Maintenance through at least the end of 2031, followed by CSM through 2032.

This continued investment reinforces SAP BusinessObjects as a stable, strategic BI platform — one with a clearer and longer-term roadmap than most other BI tools on the market today.

CATCH’s Evaluation in Progress

At CATCH, we’re currently testing and evaluating BI 2025 to assess its capabilities and compatibility with our C3D BI Suite. Early impressions are promising, and we’re excited about the potential to leverage new features to enhance our clients’ reporting experience. As we continue our evaluation, we’ll share insights and recommendations to help organizations make informed decisions about adoption and integration.

SP04, SP05, and CATCH’s WebI Enhanced Visualizations

In addition to looking ahead, customers can also take advantage of SAP BusinessObjects 4.3 SP04, which introduced several usability improvements. While SAP’s enhancements are valuable, CATCH has gone a step further by offering our own WebI Enhanced Visualizations — a custom-built add-on designed to elevate the Web Intelligence experience with modern, interactive visuals tailored to business needs.

These enhancements are available now and can deliver immediate value for organizations seeking a more dynamic reporting environment. Additionally, SP05 has been released, and is currently under evaluation by the CATCH team to assess its features and compatibility with our solutions.

Summary

SAP BusinessObjects continues to demonstrate its strength and relevance in the business intelligence space. With a clear and extended roadmap, powerful capabilities for scheduling, security, and compliance, and ongoing innovation through upcoming releases, it remains a strong strategic choice for organizations seeking scalable, governed analytics. CATCH is actively engaged in testing and enhancing these capabilities through our C3D BI Suite, ensuring our clients benefit from the latest advancements in usability, performance, and visualization.
